William Clay Ford Sr., who died on Sunday at the age of 88, served in numerous positions at the Ford Motor Company, including 32 years as chairman of the Design Committee, and became chairman of the Executive Committee in 1978. Two Royal College of Art students have designed a Jaguar-inspired sculpture to celebrate the opening of Clerkenwell Design Week in London. Ewan Gallimore and Claire Miller developed their idea alongside Jaguar's Advanced Design team in Whitley, Coventry, by using technologies applied in the creation of Jaguar production and concept cars. The two were the successful team from a selection of nine groups who submitted entries after Jaguar's challenge to the RCA's Vehicle Design and Textile Design departments.
Auction company Barrett-Jackson has a long-standing tradition of selling cars with no reserve--meaning the car is sold to the highest bidder regardless of price--but a change in that policy saw several million-dollar sales Saturday night at the annual extravaganza in Scottsdale, Ariz. While most of the cars crossing the Barrett-Jackson auction block continue to be sold at no reserve, the auction giant offered up several classics with a reserve and the results were impressive. The top five sellers all eclipsed the magical million-dollar figure with the auction broadcast live on Speed TV.
